Urbana Conquers Kutztown, 3-1; Snaps Recent Skid

URBANA, Ohio - The Urbana University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in its home tournament on Friday, which featured a four-set win over Kutztown and five-set defeat in a thriller against Armstrong State.

Urbana (4-7) returns to the Grimes Center for two more matches Saturday versus Shepherd (noon) and Malone (7 p.m.).

Mikaela Beck led the Blue Knights with a career-high 21 kills and produced 10 digs in the nightcap, while Katlynn Dunlap also notched a double-double with 19 kills and 18 digs. Dunlap impressed with a very efficient .455 (19 for 33) attacking percentage to pace the Blue Knights.

Maia Dunlap tied her sister with a team-high 18 digs, as well. Audrey Pumford also displayed great defensive skills with 15 digs in the victory and setter Alyssa Myers put up her season-high assist total of 50.

UU and Kutztown traded the first two sets, before the Blue Knights closed out the final two: 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14. UU caught fire in the final set, hitting at a .393 clip overall to clinch the win.

In the first match of the day, UU perservered and almost pulled out the upset win over a one-loss Armstrong State squad: 15-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 13-15.

Beck and Katlynn Dunlap each had double-doubles, while freshman Emilee Skerbetz stepped up with a career-high 10 kills in the middle with a .474 attacking percentage.
