Blue Knights Falter in PSAC-MEC Crossover Finale

ERIE, Pa. - The Urbana University women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on the final day of action at the PSAC-MEC Crossover tournament. UU fell to Gannon in straight sets and then played much better in the finale, but came up short in four sets against Edinboro.

The Blue Knights drop to 3-6 overall and will return to action next Friday-Saturday, Sept. 16-17, when they host the Urbana Invitational at the Warren G. Grimes Center.

Against host Gannon, Urbana went down by set scores of 19-25, 17-25 and 17-25 in the battle of the Knights. Gannon hit over .300 during each set and Urbana improved to .214 in the final set, but it wasn't enough.

UU trailed by two, 20-18, in the first set following a Madison Davis kill, but the Golden Knights responded with a kill and ended the set on a 5-1 run. Gannon ran away with the second set and UU led three times in the early going of set number three and couldn't sustain the lead.

Aleese Butler and Katlynn Dunlap led the Blue Knights with seven kills each. Alyssa Myers had five kills and paced UU with 21 assists and two blocks. Defensively, the Dunlap sisters recorded a team-high seven digs.

In the nightcap, UU dropped the first set 18-25 and answered with a 25-22 victory in the second. Edinboro steamed ahead for 25-13 win in set three and then held off a late UU comeback for a 26-24 match clincher in the fourth.

UU trailed the entire fourth set against the Fighting Scots; however, the Blue Knights came all the way back to even the score at 24-24 before coming up short.

Katlynn Dunlap registered a team-high 13 kills and had 13 digs for a double-double performance. She was followed by Mikaela Beck who also reached double-figure kills with 11. Maia Dunlap held down the defense with a team-leading 18 digs.

Myers had 40 assists in the second match.

UU improved their overall attacking percentage to .225, with a match-high .306 in the second-set victory. The opponents hit .361 overall.
