INSTITUTE, W. Va. - The Urbana University men's basketball team suffered an 86-71 loss at West Virginia State in Mountain East Conference play Thursday night.
Sophomore guard
Carlas Jackson scored 20 points for the seventh time this season to pace the Blue Knights. Senior guard
Mike Newton recorded 17 points and freshman forward
Jahmere Howze added 11 points off the bench. Despite a poor shooting night, sophomore forward
Matt Csuhran found a way to contribute with a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Blue Knights took the first lead of the game at 2-0, but never led after the opening two minutes.
UU only made 5 of 25 attempts from beyond the arc and struggled from the field overall by shooting at a 39-percent clip. WVSU shot 49 percent and drained 10 of 24 three's.
The Blue and Grey went down 49-35 at the half, and the closest UU would get in the second frame was 11 points.
Freshman forward
Austin Adams' layup with 14:43 remaining made it 53-42 WVSU, but the Blue Knights just couldn't string together a run.
Urbana remains on the road where it will take on Charleston in a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
