Urbana's Tough Season Continues after 86-72 loss to Shepherd

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University men's hoops teams dropped an 86-72 decision to visiting Shepherd at the Grimes Center Saturday afternoon.

Urbana's (1-22, 0-18) rough season continued after shooting just 40 percent overall and 23 percent from beyond the arc against the Rams. UU has now lost its previous 20 games.

Freshman Jahmere Howze led UU with 16 points and posted double digits for the 20th time this season. Four others reached double digits, including sophomore Carlas Jackson with 14 and freshman Austin Adams with 13. Senior Dimitri Abner and sophomore Matt Csuhran each totaled 10 points.

The Blue Knights trailed 41-37 at the half and stayed within striking distance for the majority of the second frame.

Abner's jumper with 8:17 left in regulation made it a four-point contest at 65-61, but that was as close as UU would make it after the Rams raced out to a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

The two squads were evenly matched on the boards (SU 37, UU 34) and only combined for 17 total turnovers in the game. However, SU shot at a 52-percent clip and hit 17 of 21 attempts from the free-throw line.

SU (13-11, 8-10) was paced by Steffen Davis, who led all scorers with 24 points, and Skyler Roman added 20 for the visitors.

Urbana takes the road for a pair of league games next week at Concord (Thursday) and UVa-Wise (Saturday).
