Urbana Slips on the Road after Leading Concord at Halftime

ATHENS, W. Va. – The Urbana men's basketball team suffered a three-point loss on the road Thursday night by a final score of 93-90 against Concord at the Carter Center.

The Blue Knights led virtually the entire first half and eight minutes into the second period, until the host Mountain Lions used a 13-0 run to gain the lead. UU stayed within single digits the rest of the way, but couldn't get back over the hump. Urbana's 39-37 halftime lead was the seventh time this season the Blue Knights led an opponent at the break.

Forward Jahmere Howze led Urbana with 28 points and shooting guard Carlas Jackson poured in 22 points with five 3-pointers.

Jackson's trey with 7:42 left in regulation made it a two-point game, 66-64, but Concord responded with seven straight points to erase the threat.

The home team answered again after the Blue Knights came up with another 8-0 run to cut the deficit to five with under two minutes remaining.

UU made a final late push as Jackson drained his fifth bucket from beyond the arc in the final seconds, but again, Concord was able to escape by running out the last few ticks.

Forwards Dimitri Abner and Austin Adams also reached double figures for Urbana with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

UU turned the ball over fewer times than Concord, but the Blue Knights were outrebounded 47-35. CU took advantage of 19 offensive boards by converting 22 second-chance points.

Concord's Rob Reed led all scorers with 29 points, with 22 of those coming in the second half.

Urbana falls to 1-23 overall and will now seek its first league win Saturday at UVa-Wise.
