Urbana Wins Ninth Match in a Row

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Urbana University women's volleyball squad kept the ball rolling with its ninth consecutive win Tuesday night. UU defeated Notre Dame 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21) to avenge a five-set loss to the Falcons earlier in the season.

UU improved to 18-11 overall and 8-4 in conference play while claiming sole possession of third place in the Mountain East Conference standings. NDC dropped to 15-13 and 7-5 in league play.

Mikaela Beck led Urbana with a double-double effort with 18 kills and 12 digs. Madison Davis finished one off her career-high with 17 kills and Katlynn Dunlap reached double figures with 14 kills. Maia Dunlap gathered a team-high 27 digs and Katlynn posted 14 for a double-double performance. Aleese Butler recorded a team-high seven blocks and setter Alyssa Myers had 43 assists.

The Blue Knights hit .203 as a team on 148 total attack chances and limited the host Falcons to a sub-.100 hitting percentage for the match. UU's best group effort came in the third set when it hit .366 collectively.

In the first set, Notre Dame went ahead early with a 3-0 lead and moved on to hold a 14-11 advantage. However, a Butler kill sparked an 11-3 run and the Blue Knights never looked back. Katlynn Dunlap clinched the set with a kill off a pass from sister Maia.

The Falcons responded in a close second set with a 25-23 triumph, but the Blue and Grey proved too powerful over the final two frames.

Urbana returns to action Friday night when it challenges MEC leader No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit (29-2, 12-0 MEC). First serve inside Alma Grace McDonough Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
