Abner Registers Career-High 20 Points

Struggles persist for UU men's hoops

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University men's basketball team dropped its 14th straight game, while 13th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit picked up its 13th consecutive win inside the Grimes Center Monday night. WJU defeated UU by a final count of 87-68 in the MEC contest, which was played following a postponement from last Saturday.

Urbana fell to 1-16 overall and remained winless in league play. Wheeling Jesuit sits atop the conference with an overall ledger of 18-1 (11-1 MEC).

Senior Dimitri Abner scored a career-high 20 points in 30 minutes of reserve duty to lead the Blue Knights. Freshman Jahmere Howze produced a solid line with 17 points and team-high nine boards.

WJU's Pat Moseh led five Cardinals in double-figure scoring with 19 points, while posting the lone double-double of the contest with 12 boards.

UU played WJU tight in the opening half and took an eight-point lead at the 12:26 mark until halftime. Abner's jumper capped an 11-0 run to put the Blue Knights up 21-13, but the Cardinals answered right back.

WJU took a 39-33 advantage into the half, and never let UU reclaim the lead.

The Blue Knights were out-scored 17-4 on second chance points and gave up 18 more on turnovers.

UU finished 45-percent shooting from the floor, while making only 5 of 14 (36 percent) treys. Woeful shooting at the free-throw line also hurt UU, as the Blue Knights made 15 of 29 (52 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.

Urbana will stay at home for league games this upcoming Thursday and Saturday. UU will host MEC foe Glenville State at 7:30 p.m. inside the Grimes Center Thursday night. Then, the Blue Knights will welcome West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday at 4 p.m. for 'Youth Night' at Grimes.
