Urbana Battered by Hot-Shooting Shepherd

UU returns to action Monday night

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Shepherd shot 57 percent and drained 13 3-pointers to move past Urbana on Saturday inside the Butcher Center. The loss drops Urbana to 1-13 overall and 0-9 in Mountain East Conference games.

Urbana never led in this one and faced a deficit as large as 35 points late in the second half. The Rams only turned the ball over six times, while six players scored double figures for the home team.

Freshman forward Jahmere Howze led the Blue Knights with 14 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Senior point guard Mike Newton chipped in with 12 points and freshman forward Austin Adams scored 10 with a team-high six rebounds.

UU shot 43.5 percent overall, and 5 of 15 from three-point range. The Blue Knights only hit one three on 10 three-point attempts in the opening half.

Shepherd outscored Urbana 18-0 off turnovers in the first half, which led to a 46-24 advantage for the Rams.

Urbana will square off against No. 3 Fairmont State on Monday night (7:30 p.m.). The Falcons have won eight straight games.
