Blue Knights searching for answers

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Urbana went down on the road, 99-81, to third-ranked Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference game Monday night at Joe Retton Arena.

Urbana never led the Fighting Falcons and fell to 1-14 overall and 0-10 against league opponents.

Senior point guard Mike Newton led five Blue Knights in double digits with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. Freshman Austin Adams recorded 13 points on a career-high 14 shot attempts, while sophomore Carlas Jackson struggled to find his rhythm (3 of 10) and finished with 12 points.

Freshmen Colin Curran and Jahmere Howze both notched 10 points. Howze and sophomore Matt Csuhran collected a team-high six caroms.

As a team, UU hit just 38.7 percent from the floor and 4 of 20 three-point attempts. The Blue Knights were strong at the free-throw line, sinking 19 of 22 attempts.

UU outscored FSU 17-15 on fast-break points, while the home team beat the Blue and Grey 50-48 on points in the paint.

The Falcons shot a blistering 59 percent and hit 11 3-pointers. Chase Conner hit six of those three's and led five players in double figures with 18 points.

Urbana returns to action on Thursday night against in-state MEC rival Notre Dame College. Tipoff between the Blue Knights and Falcons is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
