Urbana Knocked Off by Concord, 100-90

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University men's basketball team fell to Concord in Mountain East Conference play by a final score of 100-90 inside the Grimes Center Tuesday night.

Urbana (1-12, 0-8 MEC) put together a solid first half and led the Mountain Lions 50-42 at the break, which was the first halftime lead in six games for UU, but a 22-0 Concord run to open the second half completely unraveled the Blue Knights.

Sophomore Carlas Jackson led UU with 23 points on a career-best 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range. It was the third time in four games that Jackson scored over 20 points, as the 6-foot-4 guard raised his scoring average to 17.3 PPG. He has also hit at least two treys in 11 of 13 contests.

Four other Blue Knights scored in double figures, including 13 points and career-high six rebounds from freshman Justin Johnson in his fourth start. Sophomore Matt Cshuran posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, while Mike Newton and Austin Adams contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jackson's free throws with 13:32 left in the game were the first UU points scored in the second half, as Concord came out on fire in the second frame.

The Mountain Lions (10-4, 5-3 MEC) built a 19-point lead with 7:28 remaining, but the Blue Knights kept fighting.

A Jackson trey cut the deficit to 10 with 2:47 left and a pair of Cshuran free throws got it to single digits with 33 seconds to go, but UU couldn't get over the hump.

After a quality 51.6 percent shooting effort in the opening half, Urbana struggled to make only 37.9 percent in the second half. The Blue Knights shot 45.0 percent (27 of 60) for the game.

Concord made 22 of 32 (68.8 percent) shots in the second half, while shooting 57.6 percent from the floor overall. Senior guard Rob Reed led the Mountain Lions with 26 points.

CU outscored UU 48-20 in the paint as the visitors held a 37-31 rebounding edge.

Urbana returns to action on Saturday with a road game at MEC foe Shepherd. Tipoff against the Rams is scheduled at 4 p.m. ET.
