Balice Picks Up First Win

UU splits pair of matches

CANTON, Ohio – Katlynn Dunlap was named to the Hall of Fame City Challenge All-Tournament team as the Urbana volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out the tournament on Saturday. UU swept Concord 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) and fell to NW Missouri State 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 19-25) in the finale. The win over Concord marked the first victory for UU head coach Tim Balice.

Urbana 3, Concord 0
Dunlap hit a solid .348 with 12 kills to lead the Blue Knights to victory in UU's first match of the day. As a team, the Blue Knights recorded a season-high 37 kills on a season-high 33 assists. Freshman Madison Davis continued her early production, reaching double digits in kills for the first time with 11. Senior Mary Hendricks delivered a season-high 25 assists.

NW Missouri State 3, Urbana 0
The Blue Knights lost momentum in the finale, but Dunlap stayed hot with a season-high 13 kills. UU struggled as a group with a total attack percentage of .057 (28-22-105).

UU finished the tournament (four matches) with 10.08 kills per set, 9.25 assists per set, 12.67 digs per set and 1.33 blocks per set.

Urbana (1-3) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8 against Ursuline in the home opener. Match start time is slated for 7 p.m. inside the Grimes Center.
