UU Drops Match at WLU, 3-1

Dunlap, King & Davis set career highs

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – Three Blue Knights reached double digits in kills, but the Urbana volleyball team dropped a Mountain East Conference match on the road to West Liberty Friday night, 3-1.

UU opened with an impressive 25-16 first-set victory, it's first set win during league play this season. However, the Hilltoppers rattled off three straight to overcome the Blue and Grey.

Urbana drops to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in conference matches.

Katlynn Dunlap paced the Blue Knights with a match-high 14 kills. She recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 20 digs, eclipsing 400 for her career (407), and her total number of digs Friday night matched her career high. She collected 20 digs last season against Ohio Valley (Sept. 16, 2014).

Mari King also produced a solid outing for UU, tying her career-high mark for number of kills with 12 on a career-high 33 total attacks.

The third Blue Knight to reach double-digit kills was Madison Davis, who posted 10 kills and 10 digs (career high) for her first collegiate double-double.

Mary Hendricks was responsible for 46 assists and nine digs, while Maia Dunlap and Brianna Burkhalter registered 16 digs and 12 digs, respectively.

The Blue Knights finished 54 percent on sideouts and blocked four balls.

Three Hilltoppers posted five or more block assists, as Raimey Benson and Stephanie Leonard tallied 12 kills apiece for West Liberty.

Urbana will have a week off before returning home to the Grimes Center. UU will host a pair of league matches over Homecoming Weekend, including Fairmont State (7 p.m.) on Friday, Oct. 2 and Shepherd (4 p.m.) the following day.
