Blue Knights Battle Hard at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Urbana University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Cedarville Tuesday night. The Blue Knights led at one point in all three sets but eventually went down 25-19, 26-24 and 32-30. Urbana falls to 6-7 overall and returns to league play Friday night at West Liberty for a 6 p.m. match.

Katlynn Dunlap led the Blue Knights with 16 kills (.244) and nine digs. Mari King produced some clutch points, while producing an efficient 10 kills on 17 total attacks (.412). Madison Davis put down seven kills, while Mary Hendricks and Aleese Butler each tallied four.

Hendricks dished out a team-high 38 assists and Maia Dunlap led UU with 10 digs.

Urbana led early on in the first set 4-2, until Cedarville rattled off eight unanswered points.

The second set got closer as Urbana managed to climb ahead 16-11. Both teams went back and forth down the stretch, as Cedarville edged the Blue Knights with two straight points to bust the 24-24 tie.

Again, Urbana led midway through a set when it went up 18-15 in the third frame. But Cedarville tied it 18-18, forcing a timeout by UU head coach Tim Balice.

The teams went back-and-forth once more down the stretch.

Urbana gained a set-point opportunity when King put down a big kill to make it 24-23 in UU's favor. However, Cedarville regrouped after a timeout and scored two straight.

Urbana had set-point chances on two more occasions, leading 27-26 and 29-28, but Cedarville just didn't go away. Eventually, the home team came out on top 32-30.
