Blue Knights Split Pair of Matches, Stay .500 on the Year

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Urbana volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at Kentucky Wesleyan, keeping its record .500 (6-6) on the season. The Blue Knights went down in four sets against Trevecca Nazarene on a neutral court in the opener, before sweeping the host Panthers in the second match.In the first match, Urbana edged out Trevecca Nazarene 25-23 in the opening set to go up 1-0. However, the Trojans escaped the second set 28-26 and the third set 25-23, and used that momentum gained to take the fourth stanza, 25-20.

Sophomore OH Katlynn Dunlap led the Blue Knights with a double-double. Dunlap recorded a team-high 19 kills on 57 total attacks (.105), while posting 14 digs.

Fellow sophomore and sister Maia Dunlap secured a team-best 20 digs against the Trojans, and senior Mary Hendricks led with 41 assists.

Junior Mari King finished with nine kills, while senior Meghan Verhoff led UU with four block assists.

The match featured 19 lead changes and 33 tied scores.

In the second match of the day, Katlynn Dunlap led the Blue Knights once more with a very solid .471 attack percentage. Dunlap put down 17 kills on 34 attempts with just one attack error.
UU skated past the Panthers in three sets: 25-20, 25-19 and 25-16.

Sophomore Aleese Butler hit well, finishing with nine kills on 18 total attacks (.389). Sophomore Brianna Burkhalter delivered five aces to lead UU in the service department.

Hendricks dished out 37 helpers to finish the day with 78 total assists combined.

Five Blue Knights collected at least four digs, and UU finished the match hitting .257 (43-for-109).

Urbana will continue its season-long road swing with another away match Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Blue Knights are set to travel to local-rival Cedarville at 7 p.m. ET.
