Blue Knights Sweep Falcons, Earn First MEC Win

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Urbana women's volleyball team snapped its four-match losing streak with a sweep over Notre Dame College Tuesday night. The Blue Knights took three straight sets: 25-20, 25-19, 25-19, giving head coach Tim Balice his first career win against a Mountain East Conference opponent.

Urbana improves to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in MEC play.

Katlynn Dunlap returned to the lineup to lead the UU attack. The sophomore outside hitter was very efficient, converting 14 kills on 33 total attacks (.364) with only two errors. Dunlap also notched seven digs and 1.5 blocks.

As a team, UU hit .282 (42-for-103) on total attacks and registered six aces. Brianna Burkhalter and Mary Hendricks each collected a pair of points on serves.

Aleese Butler also hit well, knocking down eight kills on 11 total attacks (.727).  Madison Davis and Megan Verhoff each had five kills, while Mari King recorded four. Hendricks and Emily Fry both tallied three kills.

Hendricks dished out a match-high 32 assists, while Maia Dunlap picked up a team-high nine digs.

The Falcons were led by Lindsay Shirilla's 14 kills.

UU doubled NDC's block total with six defensive stops.

The match was closer than the box score suggests, as the two teams exchanged the lead 10 times and tied the score on 27 separate occasions.

Urbana continues MEC play on Friday night, when it travels to Charleston for a 7 p.m. ET match.
