UU Stunned at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Urbana (10-13, 4-7 MEC) dropped a heartbreaker in five sets at Shepherd Friday night, which snapped a three-match win streak for UU. The Blue Knights got within two points of victory when they led 13-10 in the final set, but the Rams rattled off a 5-0 run to stun Urbana inside the Butcher Center.  

UU claimed the opening set 25-13 and the third set 25-21. Shepherd took the second and fourth sets 25-16 and 25-22, respectively. The Blue Knights are now 3-2 in matches that have gone to five sets.

Aleese Butler produced a career-high total in kills for the second straight match with 18 on 32 total attacks (.438). The sophomore middle hitter registered 16 kills her last time out.

Also reaching double digits was sophomore Katlynn Dunlap with 12 kills and six digs. Dunlap has recorded double-digit kills in 17 of 23 matches this season, and entered Friday's match tied for 45th nationally with 3.80 kills per set.

As a team, UU outhit Shepherd .237 to .187, and the Rams doubled up the Blue Knights on aces (8-4).

With the final set tied 10-10, UU picked up three straight points for momentum. Madison Davis (eight kills) put the Blue Knights up 11-10 with a kill, and then followed that up with block assist along with Butler. Then, a Hendricks ace gave UU the 13-10 advantage.

Shepherd's Amanda Snowden, who led the Rams with 18 kills, lifted the home team to victory with four of the final five points.

Urbana quickly returns to action with another league match at Fairmont State on Saturday, October 31. Match start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
