UUVB Comes Up Short on Homecoming

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana women's volleyball team put forth a much improved performance from the previous night, but still came up short against Shepherd, 3-0, on Homecoming Satuday. The Blue Knights went down 22-25, 24-26, and 18-25 Saturday afternoon, and fall to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in Mountain East Conference games.

Sophomore Maia Dunlap played outstanding on defense, collecting a game-high 18 digs to keep Urbana in the match.

Freshman Madison Davis led the Blue Knights with a team-high nine kills with a service ace and four digs. Junior Mari King also produced a solid effort with eight kills and two block assists.
Sophomore Aleese Butler filled up the stat sheet with six kills, two assists, three digs and two block assists.

Shepherd led the entire first set but Urbana stayed within striking distance to only fall by three points.

UU finally broke through in the second set, forcing 11 ties and five lead changes. The visiting Rams were still able to hold on though, in a tightly-contested set.

The Blue Knights battled and jumped out to a 16-12 lead in the final set, but again, the Rams kept chipping away and eventually rattled off an 8-0 run to steal momentum.

UU finished the match 33-for-74 (44 percent) on sideouts. SU went 35-for-66 (53 percent).

Urbana will seek its first MEC win next week, when it travels to Notre Dame College for a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
