Verhoff's Career Night Propels UU

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University volleyball team returned home with an attitude Friday night, topping West Virginia State 3-1 for its first league win inside the Grimes Center.

The Blue Knights came out on fire and dominated the opening set 25-13. The Yellow Jackets responded in the second 26-24, but UU was firing on all cylinders and cruised the rest of the way.

The Blue Knights improve to 9-12 overall and 3-6 in Mountain East Conference play.

UU featured a season-high five players with double-digit kills, including senior Megan Verhoff who spearheaded the attack with a career-high 14 kills.

Mari King and Katlynn Dunlap each produced 13 kills, while Aleese Butler and Madison Davis put down 10 each.

Libero Brianna Burkhalter controlled the defensive side with 17 digs and also registered six assists.

Mary Hendricks continued her steady play at setter, dishing out 47 helpers across four sets.

UU recorded 61 percent or better on sideouts in the first, third, and fourth sets. For the match, the Blue Knights finished at 56 percent.

Urbana returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 for its 'Dig Pink' match. UU will host league-rival Notre Dame College at 7 p.m. inside the Grimes Center.
