Prior to Wittenberg, Mummey enjoyed tremendous success as the head coach of the girls basketball team at Sidney High School in her hometown of Sidney, Ohio. She compiled 95 wins at Sidney which made her the third all-time winningest coach in program history.

In her six years, Mummey was the Southwest District Division 1 Coach of the Year three times, and the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Coach of the Year twice. She orchestrated back-to-back 20-win seasons with a 22-2 record in 2014-15 and 24-1 record in 2015-16, with current Blue Knight standout Sylvia Hudson leading the way. Mummey also taught Algebra I during her tenure at Sidney High School.

Mummey got her start in coaching as an assistant coach at Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio shortly after graduating from Urbana University in 2008. She played at Edison for two seasons before completing her career at Urbana, where she earned a degree in exercise science. Mummey was named All-AMC Scholar-Athlete and Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete following her senior year with the Blue Knights.
