AMHERST, N.Y. – The Urbana University men's volleyball team played its first match in two weeks Friday night at Daemen College. The Blue Knights fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19 & 25-18.
Tyler Chavez led the Blue Knights with 10.5 points on 10 kills and a block assist. The freshman hit .381 with only two errors on 21 attempts.
Additionally,
Jack Brinkman had seven kills and five digs while setter
Chaz Hafer tallied 23 assists.
Preston Kent and
Liam Morrissey each had three kills.
Tomas Beralas picked up a team-high six digs.
Urbana (1-17) hit .160 as a team while the host Daemen squad swung at a .247 clip. The Blue Knights hit over .400 in the opening set but fell off over the final two frames.
In the first set, Urbana jumped out to a 4-2 lead after a pair of kills by Morrissey but that was the last lead for the Blue Knights in the opener. After the set was tied 7-7, the Wildcats built as much as a six-point advantage to go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set was neck-and-neck until Daemen created separation with a 5-0 run to move ahead 19-14, and Urbana couldn't recover. Brinkman had three kills in the second frame.
An ace from
Preston Kent put UU ahead 13-12 in the third set, but the hosts closed the set on a 12-4 run to clinch the match. Chavez led with three kills in the third.
Daemen's Zach Yerington posted 14 kills and eight digs while Zach Schneider had 10 and six, respectively.
UP NEXT: Urbana will play a neutral-site match tomorrow afternoon against St. Francis Brooklyn on Daemen's campus.
