UU Falls to Roberts Wesleyan; Sanz Records 10 Saves

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Urbana goalkeeper Hazel Sanz racked up 10 saves, but the Blue Knights were blanked on the scoreboard Sunday against Roberts Wesleyan, 2-0.

Roberts scored the go-ahead goal in the final seconds of the first half as Julia Doriski slotted a failed clear attempt to the bottom left corner.

Then, RWC's Israela Groves added a goal shortly after the break in the 50th minute. Groves turned and fired a strike from 30 yards to the upper right 90.

Forwards Alyssa Edwards and Kristen Dickison led UU with two shots on frame, each. The host Redhawks outshot the Blue Knights 19-6 and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The best scoring opportunity for the Blue and White came early in the first half with six shots in a five-minute span. However, RWC goalkeeper Kelsey Brinkel stood firm with four saves between the posts.

UU (0-2-0) returns to action when it opens conference play at Frostburg State on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The Blue Knights' home opener will be played on Saturday, Sept. 21 against West Liberty.
