Bryant Nets Game-Winner as UU Clips Wheeling, 2-1

WHEELING, W. Va. – Kobi Bryant's game-winner in the 76th minute gave Urbana University (2-4-0, 2-2-0 MEC) a 2-1 comeback win over Wheeling University (0-7-0, 0-4-0 MEC) Sunday at Bishop Schmitt Field.

The win for the Blue Knights snapped a three-game losing streak against the Cardinals at Bishop Schmitt Field. The two teams will face each other again next Sunday in Urbana.

Hazel Sanz continued her defensive prowess in goal, collecting nine saves as the only Cardinal point came off an own goal committed by Urbana.

After a scoreless first half, a shot from Wheeling's Micah Miller was re-directed and ended up in the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. WU built pressure in the early stages of the second half, but Sanz was on top of her game.

UU finally received a stroke of luck in its favor as Saylor Jewell tied the game at 1-1 in the 66th minute. Jewell battled for a ball in the box, and while on the ground, she made an athletic play and toed the ball past the oncoming keeper. It was Jewell's first goal as a Blue Knight.

Head coach Kevin Mounce brought on substitutions 10 minutes later and the move paid off, as Bryant scored on the next possession after taking field following a brief rest. The senior forward controlled a heavy touch and fired off her left foot from the top of the box, sending the ball into the left side of the net.

The game-winner is the second of Bryant's career and her first goal of the season.

The Blue Knights finished with five shots on goal, led by Jewell who recorded a team-high three shots on frame. Alyssa Edwards and Kristen Dickison also had a shot on goal.

Wheeling's Megan Herter recorded three saves in goal and Marley Magruder led all players with five shots on goal.

UP NEXT: UU returns home for Thursday's match against Notre Dame College (4 PM). Then, the Blue Knights and Cardinals will face each other again next Sunday in Urbana.
