Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Urbana Athletic Communications

Women's Soccer Defeats NDC at Home, 1-0

URBANA, Ohio – Saylor Jewell scored in the 57th minute and the Urbana University women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 home victory over Notre Dame College Thursday at UU Stadium.

UU captured its second straight win and its third victory in four matches, improving to 3-2-0 in league play and 3-4-0 overall this season. The Blue Knights also snapped a 13-match winless streak against Notre Dame as the visiting Falcons dropped to 2-3-3 (1-2-2 MEC) on the year.

Hazel Sanz logged her second clean sheet in goal as the Blue Knights posted a total team effort on defense. NDC outshot UU 19-4 overall, but only six of the Falcon attempts were put on frame and stopped by Sanz.

Jewell scored the game-winner off a rebound from Kristen Dickison's shot on frame, which was knocked down by NDC's keeper Jodan Pasalaqua. Jewell raced to the net and slipped the ball just inside the left post as Pasalaqua tried to recover. It was her second goal of the season.

NDC's best scoring opportunity came in the opening minute of the second half when it had two shots from point-blank range stopped by Sanz, who remained sure-handed among a crowded box.

UU's Jordin Littles, Kobi Bryant and Alyssa Edwards each put a shot on goal for the Blue Knights. In addition, Alyssa Garberich and Sophia Thomas played a full 90 minutes on the back line.

UP NEXT: UU hosts Wheeling University at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Blue Knights defeated the Cardinals 2-1 on the road last weekend.
