Blue Knights fall in road exhibition at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Urbana University women's basketball team fell 84-49 to Ball State University in Monday's road exhibition game inside Worthen Arena.

Urbana led 34-32 at halftime, but the host Cardinals imposed their will in the second half by outscoring the Blue Knights 52-15. Urbana's three-point shooting was the key factor in building its first half lead, shooting 6 for 11 (55%) from beyond the arc with three treys in each of the first two periods. However, UU went 0 for 11 in the second half and converted just six total field goals over the final 20 minutes.

Tyra James led Urbana with 23 points on 9-of-20 shooting and 13 rebounds. Sylvia Hudson and Kami McEldowney each chipped in with six points.

The Blue Knights jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game with all eight points scored by James. She finished with nine points in the quarter and 13 at halftime. Then, a Kasey Knippen jumper gave UU a 17-13 lead just before the end of the opening stanza.

In the second quarter, Urbana remained out in front the majority of the way in a back-and-forth affair. Ball State claimed a one-point lead, briefly on two occasions, but 3-pointers made by Jada Love and McEldowney put the Blue Knights back on top. UU led by four following McEldowney's trey at the 4:14 mark, 32-28, and held on for a 34-32 advantage at the break.

Ball State outscored Urbana 28-8 in third quarter with four treys by Thelma Dis Agustsdottir, finishing on 12-0 run over final four minutes, 60-42. The Cardinals cruised the rest of the way.

Dis Augustsdottir led four Ball State players in double figures with 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Oshlynn Brown notched a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
