Women's Soccer Suffers 3-1 Setback at NDC

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Alyssa Edwards scored her 12th goal, but it wasn't enough as Urbana University women's soccer fell 3-1 at Notre Dame College in the regular season finale.

The two teams were playing for the second seed in the MEC tournament and rights to host a first round match. With the loss, Urbana (7-9-1, 7-7-1 MEC) will remain in South Euclid to play Notre Dame (9-5-4, 9-4-3 MEC) again on Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the MEC tournament. It'll be the first appearance in the postseason for Blue Knights women's soccer since joining the MEC.

Edwards scored to put Urbana ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute off an assist from Kobi Bryant. Bryant possessed the ball near midfield off a goal kick and slotted a perfect through-ball to Edwards, who was wide open and nailed the ball to the far corner.

The junior from Canal Winchester, Ohio currently has the second-most goals scored in a season by a Blue Knight and the most during the school's D2 era. She needs three to break the single-season goals record. Edwards' 22 career goals are the most in the school's D2 era and fifth all-time.

Unfortunately, the lead didn't last long as Notre Dame's Alyssa Soltis scored her first of two goals on the day a minute later. Soltis recorded the game-winner in the 72nd minute and the Falcons tacked on another goal near the end of regulation.

Alyssa Garberich put two shots on goal as the host Falcons held an 8-3 advantage in shots on frame. Goalkeeper Hazel Sanz logged five saves in net.

UP NEXT: Urbana and Notre Dame will square off again Tuesday afternoon in the MEC Tournament. The opening round match will begin at 1 p.m. from Mueller Field in South Euclid.
