Women's Soccer Brings Home Fourth Straight Win

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Two goals in a span of 2:30 late in the second half was just what the doctor ordered to complete the comeback for Urbana University women's soccer in a 2-1 victory over West Liberty University.

The win gives UU (5-4-0, 5-2-0 MEC) its longest winning streak during the D2 era with four straight victories. In addition, coach Kevin Mounce's club has tied a school record for conference wins in the MEC era that was originally set in 2015.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Alyssa Edwards' shot from outside the 18-yard box found the net at the 73:45 mark of the match to give the junior from Canal Winchester, Ohio, her fifth goal of the season.

The goal was a shot in the arm that the Blue Knights needed as their play intensified on offense.

Senior Jordin Littles then answered soon after the Edwards equalizer. Littles tapped in the game-winner from inside the 6-yard box by rolling the ball just out of West Liberty's Olivia Montgomery's reach to give Urbana a 2-1 lead.

Hazel Sanz was stoic in goal as she tallied six saves to preserve the win against a Hilltoppers offense that put up 14 shots with seven on goal. West Liberty (2-6-2, 2-3-2 MEC) attempted eight corner kicks to Urbana's five.

Layne Hartnell started the scoring as she got the Hilltoppers on the board in 25th minute following a Julia Specht corner kick.

UP NEXT: In a battle of top-seeded teams, Blue Knights, who are the MEC North Division leaders, will travel to Elkins, W.Va., on Sunday, October 13 for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Senators of David & Elkins College, who is currently tied with Concord University atop the MEC South Division standings.
