Sanz Posts 16 Saves in Scoreless Road Draw

ELKINS, W. Va. – Hazel Sanz delivered a season-high 16 saves to help Urbana University women's soccer earn a point in Sunday's scoreless draw at Davis & Elkins.

UU moves to 5-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in league play following the first draw of the season. The host Davis & Elkins squad now stands at 5-3-2 (4-2-1 MEC) on the season.

Sanz, who posted her third clean sheet, had numerous diving stops including a one-handed punch to deflect a shot over the crossbar as time expired in the first overtime period. Her 16 saves are the most by a Blue Knight since Oct. 23, 2011, when former keeper Meghan Taucher posted 16 saves in a 2-1 win over Ashland.

UU finished with 11 shots on goal compared to 16 attempts on frame by Davis & Elkins.

Alyssa Garberich put three shots on goal while three others had a pair, including Kobi Bryant, Kristen Dickison and Alyssa Edwards.

The Blue Knights had a few shots come close to finding the net. Midway through the first OT period, Dickison possessed a ball to the middle of the box and ripped shot to the right side that was saved.

Davis & Elkins' keeper Sierra Curtis logged 11 saves for her second clean sheet of the year.

UP NEXT: The Blue Knights return to the friendly confines of UU Stadium on Thursday for league match against West Virginia Wesleyan.
