Nicholls Scores Twice to Sink Senators, 2-1

URBANA, Ohio – Luke Nicholls' first career multi-goal performance propelled the Urbana University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Davis & Elkins on Saturday to cap off Homecoming festivities. With the win, Urbana improved to 5-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in league play.

Nicholls, a freshman forward from Manchester, England, netted the first goal just 2:43 into the match. The shot to the lower right side of the goal was set up by a nice assist from Matt Coleman.

Then another beauty of an assist, this time delivered by Miguel Enamorado, led to Nicholls burying the game-winner into the back of the net at the 8:14 mark of the first half. It was the first game-winner for Nicholls and first career assist by Enamorado.

Additionally, Nicholls' multi-goal performance was the fifth time this season that a Blue Knights men's soccer player notched a multi-goal game, as Jake Wischmeier and Hass Gorji both accomplished the feat once, and Jasminko Disdarevic did so twice with once being a four-goal performance at home against West Liberty.

The Blue Knights took the 2-0 advantage into halftime while carrying a 6-1 edge in shots and 5-1 margin on corner kicks.

In the second half, Daniel Cerezo got the Senators (4-5-0, 3-5-0 MEC) on the board in the 73rd minute off an assist from Luca Compagnucci.

Urbana and Davis & Elkins had seven shots each, but it was the Blue Knights defense that stifled the Senators most of the night as only two shots were on goal. Jakob Henriksen made a nice stop on the only other shot he saw on frame.

UP NEXT: Urbana will host West Virginia Wesleyan College at UU Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on Thursday, October 17, in what could be a battle for third place in the Mountain East Conference pending WVWC's result against Notre Dame College on Sunday.
