URBANA, Ohio -- For the second day in a row, Urbana baseball rebounded with a one-run victory following a one-run defeat against Wheeling Jesuit.

The Blue Knights came out on top 4-3 in Sunday's finale thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly by Cody Fullenkamp. The visiting Cardinals held on for the Game 1 victory in extra innings, also by a score of 4-3 at Blue Knight Field.

UU out-slugged WJU 12-5 in the extra-inning affair, but the Blue Knights left nine on base and the visitors took advantage with scoring four unearned runs.

Starter Tyler Bess went six innings for the fifth time this season, recording five strikeouts and no earned runs on four hits. Fellow freshmen Ryan Townsend (2.0 IP) and Chase Jessee (1.0 IP) were also big for the Blue Knights on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Jessee was tagged with the loss with the final unearned run crossing in the ninth after the lead-off batter reached on an error. The lefty worked his way out of a jam with the first three batters he faced reaching base.

Senior left fielder Tanner Davis got UU on the board with an RBI single in the second and sac fly in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. After WJU responded with two in the fifth, junior first baseman Austin Pratt delivered a key RBI double to get UU in front again. Then, the Cardinals kept countering and knotted the score at 3-3 with a run in the top of the sixth.

With a chance to win in extras, UU had nothing to show for three hits in the eighth and also left a runner on in the ninth.

Senior third baseman Connor Coy led the way with three hits, including a triple. Davis, Pratt and senior second baseman Mickey Barea each collected two hits.

This time, the Blue Knights had the last say as they got the clutch offense needed to overcome a 3-2 deficit in the final at-bat.

Pratt gave UU a 2-1 lead in the third on a two-out double, but the Cardinals kept their trend alive by pushing two runs across in the following frame for the lead.

In the seventh, sophomore shortstop Daniel Quiroz ignited the comeback with a lead-off single. WJU pitchers then walked three straight, including a bases-loaded pass to Mickey Barea to even the score 3-3. With one out, Fullenkamp stepped in next as a pinch-hitter and lifted a fly ball deep enough to right field to allow the winning run to score.

Senior Patrick Orr racked up a career-high eight strikeouts in the complete-game effort for his second win. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks.

UU will close out the regular season next weekend against Notre Dame College. The Blue Knights travel to South Euclid, Ohio for a doubleheader on Friday, before returning home for a home twinbill on Sunday afternoon.
