Softball Hangs on to Climb Past Mountain Lions

URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana softball split its second straight doubleheader with a 7-6 triumph in Game 1 and 12-4 setback Saturday against Concord. The Blue Knights honored seniors Briana Bamber, Courtney Kennedy, Margo Jackson, Rachel Foster and Riley Curtis in between games.

// GAME 1 (UU 7, CU 6) 
UU scored six runs in the second inning to go up 7-1 and held on the rest of the way.

Starter Carly Allen earned her second win in the circle by tossing a complete-game effort. Allen escaped numerous Concord scoring threats and stranded 11 total CU runners. The sophomore allowed four earned runs and struck out four.

Shortstop Mykee Holtz got the scoring started with an RBI triple in the first. The sophomore also produced a run on a sacrifice fly to notch her team-leading ninth game with multiple RBIs.

UU totaled seven hits with seven different players collecting a base knock. Briana Bamber and Riley Curtis each knocked in runs while Kayleigh Pate roped a double in the second inning.

Concord scored twice in the third and the fifth, and then added one more in the seventh. A ground out ended the game with two Mountain Lions in scoring position.

// GAME 2 (CU 12, UU 4)
The Blue Knights led early again, 2-1 after one frame, but the visitors roared back with five runs in the second to take control. Concord out-hit Urbana 14-9 in the second game with five doubles.

Bamber (2-3, 3B) and freshman Britney Bonno (2-4, 2B) registered multi-hit efforts while Holtz produced another extra-base hit with a double. Bonno's double produced both runs in the first inning.

UU sent out three pitchers including Pate (1.0 IP, 4 ER), Allen (3.1 IP, 4 ER) and Izzy Helm (2.2, 1 ER).

The Blue Knights fell victim to three defensive errors.

UU will close out the conference home schedule with Sunday's matchup against UVa-Wise. The doubleheader at Blue Knight Softball Field will start at noon ET.
