Softball Splits Sunday Matinee with UVa-Wise

URBANA, Ohio – Urbana split its third straight conference doubleheader Sunday against UVa-Wise. UU took the first game by a final score of 3-1 before falling in the second matchup 7-0 at Blue Knight Softball Field.

// GAME 1 (UU 3, WISE 1)
UU broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth and fended off a late Wise comeback attempt.

A two-out walk by Briana Bamber sparked the two-out rally, as three consecutive hits followed from Jenna VanHoose, Riley Curtis and Mykee Holtz.

Freshman hurler Kayleigh Pate stranded a pair of runners in the sixth and escaped the seventh after allowing a run. She improved to 5-9 inside the circle.

Holtz led UU with two hits while five others registered a base knock. The visitors outhit the Blue Knights 10-6 overall.

Wise starter Raychel Lapallo (6-5) was charged with the loss in seven innings of work.

// GAME 2 (Wise 7, UU 0)
With two outs in the sixth, Riley Curtis singled in her final at-bat to break Wise pitcher Taylor Brandt's no-hit bid. That was UU's only hit against the right-hander, as Curtis extended her hitting streak to nine games.

Wise got on the board first with four runs in the third and then added two more in the fourth. The visitors outhit UU 13-1 while being paced by four players with multi-hit efforts.

UU starter Carly Allen (3.2 IP) fell victim to three unearned runs and was tagged with the tough-luck loss.
