Tanner Homers in Shortened Game 3 at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. - Senior catcher Zeth Tanner launched his first home run as a Blue Knight Saturday at Erskine, but it was the only run Urbana scored in the series finale. The Blue Knights fell 4-1 after the contest was halted due to poor weather conditions with five innings in the book.

UU (0-7) managed four hits off Erskine starter Lucas Coan, who racked up 10 strikeouts in his second win. Senior center fielder Brad Burkholder (1-3) extended his hitting streak to four games and stole a career-high two bases. Sophomore second baseman Daniel Quiroz (1-3) and freshman shortstop Griffin Stevens (1-2) each produced a base knock and stolen base.

With UU trailing 3-0, Tanner's long ball, the first of the season for the Blue Knights, came with one out in the top of the fifth to put the Blue Knights on the board. 

The Flying Fleet (8-3) added another run on UU freshman starter Chase Jessee in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-1. Jessee (0-1) struck out six and allowed six hits in his second career start on the mound.

UP NEXT
UU continues non-conference play next week when it travels to Beckley, West Virginia for a three-game set against Ohio Valley. The Blue Knights and Fighting Scots will play one game on Thursday and a doubleheader next Friday.
