AUSTIN, Texas – Urbana junior defensive end Mikal Toliver (Dayton, Ohio, Wayne/Lenoir-Rhyne) has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Toliver, junior from Dayton, Ohio, led the MEC and ranked eighth nationally with 20.5 tackles for loss. He finished with the third-most sacks in the conference with nine, while recording a career-high 49 total tackles and he was credited with two forced fumbles. In 21 career games as a Blue Knight, Toliver has produced 19.5 sacks and 36.5 career tackles for loss. He was also voted All-MEC First Team in 2017.
Off the field, Toliver continued his success in the classroom by compiling a cumulative grade-point average of 3.72 in strategic management. He is one of eight defensive linemen honored as Academic All-America® across the nation.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
Augustana (S.D.) senior linebacker Kirby Hora is the recipient of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II football. A biology major with a perfect 4.00 GPA, Hora is one of two three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® choices on the 2018 first team. Hora is two-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference academic selection who completes his Augustana career with 411 tackles (second in program history).
The 26 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football first team members hold a composite 3.883 GPA. Five first team honorees hold a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. Nine Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football selections are repeat picks from the 2017 honor squads with seven of the veterans making the 2018 first team.
