Two WJU Goals in the First Half Sink Urbana

WHEELING, W. Va. -- The Urbana women's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road Saturday against Wheeling Jesuit in Mountain East Conference play.

UU falls to 1-5 overall (1-4 MEC) and WJU earned its first win of the season at 1-4 (1-3 MEC).

Freshman Alyssa Edwards led UU with a pair of shots on frame, along with one shot on goal by Alyssa Garberich. The Blue Knights were out-gunned 9-3 in shots on goal.

Wheeling took the early lead on a penalty kick in the 14th minute, which proved to be the difference-maker. The Cardinals tacked on another goal later in the first half and held on the rest of the way.

The hosts held a 6-2 edge on corner kicks and each team was charged with nine fouls.

UU keeper Katherine Beech registered seven saves between the pipes.

UU travels to Notre Dame (OH) on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest in South Euclid, Ohio.
