Blue Knights Stymied at Home by Yellow Jackets

Urbana falls 15-2 in midweek non-conference matchup

Box Score

URBANA, Ohio -
The Urbana University baseball team suffered a 15-2 thrashing against Cedarville Wednesday afternoon at Blue Knight Baseball Field. The Blue Knights fell to 12-20 overall and return to league action this weekend at West Liberty. The Yellow Jackets won their third straight game to improve to 9-19.

Urbana fell behind early 7-0 after the Yellow Jackets scored three in the first and four in the second frame. The Blue Knights got on the board with a pair of runs in the third, which included a solo home run by Isac Franklin. The junior shortstop led Urbana at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance, while sophomore Mickey Losey went 2 for 4 at the dish.

Brent West, who moved to third base from his usual position at first, produced the second run on a sacrifice fly to left field. West later doubled to deep center field, marking his 14th two-bagger of the season. The senior only needs one more double to crack the top-10 list for most doubles in a season by a Blue Knight.

UU starter Steven Beall took the loss in his first decision of the year. Mitch Lawson, Colt Woolever, Will Keller, and Brandon McRae all saw action on the mound for the Blue Knights.

Cedarville added three more runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and tacked one on in the ninth with the game well out of reach. CU's Marc Russell picked up the win as the Jackets were led by first baseman Markus Neff at the plate after he finished a triple shy of the cycle (4 for 5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R).
