UU Baseball Splits Another MEC Twinbill

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - Despite launching a go-ahead home run on two separate occasions, Urbana University baseball (13-21) couldn't complete the sweep after taking the first of two road games against West Liberty (20-11) on Friday. UU won the first matchup 7-5, before surrendering a two-run, walk-off home run in the 13th inning of Game 2.

Junior catcher Tanner Davis continued his recent tear, going 4 for 8 on the day with three RBI, a double and his first long ball of the season. He went 3 for 3 in the opener and then made his only hit count in the second game with a home run with two outs in the top of the ninth, which put UU ahead 3-2.

West Liberty tied the second game in the bottom of the ninth against the UU bullpen, effectively spoiling UU starter Adam Guay's second straight brilliant outing on the mound. The senior right-hander tossed eight innings while allowing two runs to score on seven hits with three strikeouts.

In the top of the 13th, Mickey Losey stepped up and delivered a lead-off shot for his first career home run to give UU another one-run advantage. However, the pesky Hilltoppers rallied and got to UU reliever Robbie Guerrero III after the freshman righty had tossed a few solid frames.

In the first game, UU trailed 3-0 after one frame but starter Patrick Orr (earned first win) buckled down and kept the Blue Knights within striking distance. The Blue Knights tied the game with three runs in the third and then added three more in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 7-3 advantage. West Liberty racked up three hits and scored twice in its final at-bat, but Guerrero closed the door with the tying runs in scoring position for his fourth save.
