Blue Knights Play to Third Straight Draw

URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana women's soccer played to its third straight draw when it tied Fairmont State in double overtime Friday afternoon, 1-1. The Blue Knights return right back to UU Stadium on Sunday for another league match.

UU moves to 1-7-3 overall (1-6-3 MEC) while the Falcons, who the Blue Knights defeated earlier this season, are now 3-4-4 (2-4-4 MEC) on the year.

Anne Kawabe (São Paulo, Brazil) put UU ahead 1-0 in the 40th minute when she cleaned up a rebound in the box. Alyssa Garberich (Springfield, Ohio) got the assist on her pin-pint free kick, which deflected off the keeper's hands. It was Kawabe's first goal of the season as UU scored in back-to-back games for the first time.

UU's second lead of the season was short-lived after the visitors responded with a short-range goal of their own two minutes after, making the score 1-1 right before halftime. Cameryn Ciresi secured a blocked shot and sent in a successful header.

The two teams remained deadlocked over the final 55 minutes. UU controlled the momentum in the opening period of overtime and FSU had the advantage during the final 10-minute frame.

Overall, the Blue Knights outshot the Falcons 16-14 and had eight shots on goal to FSU's 10. Both teams recorded four corner kicks.

UU keeper Katherine Beech (Ontario, Ohio) continued her solid season with seven saves in net.
