UU Kicks Off Homecoming with Volleyball Sweep

URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana cruised past West Virginia State in Friday night Mountain East Conference volleyball action, 3-0. The Blue Knights won 25-16 and 25-13 in the first two sets, and held on for a 25-21 margin to clinch the match inside a packed Grimes Center.

UU improves to 15-13 overall following its fifth straight MEC win. At 7-3, the Blue Knights are now tied for second place in the league standings with Fairmont State and Charleston. UU hosts Charleston on Tuesday night inside Grimes Center.

Katlynn Dunlap led the way against WVSU with team highs in kills (12) and digs (15). It was her 12th double-double of the season.

Cecily Clark registered nine kills while Aleese Butler, Emilee Skerbetz and Kaitlin Trace contributed five kills each. Defensively, there were 10 Blue Knights with at least one dig. Courtney Niesen gathered nine and libero Maia Dunlap had seven. Freshmen setters Anna Davis and Deandra Atwood dished out a combined 38 assists.


 
The Blue Knights used a strong serving game to keep the visitors off balance. UU had nine aces, led by Katlynn Dunlap's four, while the Yellow Jackets only had one ace. Overall, the Blue Knights out-hit the Yellow Jackets .222 to .060.
