Blue Knights Sweep Bobcats on 'Pink Knight'

URBANA, Ohio -- The Urbana women's volleyball team (11-12, 5-3 MEC) breezed past West Virginia Wesleyan (8-14, 3-5 MEC) Friday night in Grimes Center, 3-0. UU won by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-18 on the annual Pink Knight breast cancer awareness match. The Blue Knights return right back to action Saturday with a home doubleheader starting at noon ET.

The trio of Katlynn Dunlap, Cecily Clark and Madison Davis led UU Friday with nine kills each. Kaitlin Trace (7 kills), Aleese Butler (6 kills) and Emilee Skerbetz (5 kills) were additional scoring contributors. Freshmen setters Deandra Atwood and Anna Davis provided 20 and 19 assists, respectively, while Maia Dunlap led UU with 13 digs.

Overall, the Blue Knights recorded an overall team hitting percentage of .288 while the Bobcats were limited to .038. UU held an 8-1 advantage on aces and gathered 19 more digs than the visitors.

UU trailed only once during the first two sets when Wesleyan scored the first point of Set 2. Then, the third set proved to be much closer but UU jumped ahead by seven, 19-12, after the frame was tied at 8-8.

Up next:
UU hosts Glenville State at noon ET tomorrow and will then play Central State following that match. Starting tomorrow, the Blue Knights will cap the season with nine of its final 11 matches inside Grimes Center.
