UU Falls in Fifth Overtime Match of the Season

URBANA, Ohio -- The Urbana women's soccer team fell 2-1 against Wheeling Jesuit Thursday afternoon at UU Stadium. The Cardinals scored the game-winner three minutes into the second overtime period, marking the fifth overtime match of the season for UU.

UU drops to 1-9-3 overall (1-8-3 MEC) and WJU moves to 4-9-0 (3-8-0 MEC on the year.

Both teams scored early in the contest and played even at 1-1 for 70 minutes of regulation. UU's Anne Kawabe netted the equalizer in the 20th minute after a richochet-shot by Alyssa Edwards off the WJU keeper's hands. Kobi Bryant also picked up an assist on the play after she sent the initial cross to Edwards.

The Cardinals held a 1-0 lead for 10 minutes after scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute. Then, WJU's Kayla Klock broke the 1-1 tie in overtime by converting a UU turnover to a score.

UU keeper Katherine Beech finished with seven saves against nine shots on frame. The Blue Knights put five shots on goal.
