Dominant Pitching Leads Urbana to Pair of Road Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRANKFORT, Ky. – Urbana snapped a seven-game slide with a pair of wins over Kentucky State Friday afternoon in Frankfort, Kentucky. UU won by final scores of 6-2 and 11-1 and improved to 3-9 on the year.

Game 1 (seven innings)
The Blue Knights plated all six runs with two outs and Austin Mace tossed a complete-game with six strikeouts to lead UU to victory.

Aaron Finlay, Nick Gallagher, and Connor Coy each posted two hits and recorded two RBI during the contest. DJ Collins picked up a hit and scored two runs, while Enmanuel Lopez scored two runs.

The scoring started early for UU after Finlay doubled with two outs in the first and then Lopez walked to load the bases. Gallagher and Coy came up clutch in the next two at-bats with back-to-back singles to give UU a 3-0 lead.

UU added one run in the third on Coy's second base knock of the game, and then two more in the fourth on Finlay's two-out triple which scored Collins and Brent West.

Mace was solid on the mound, allowing just five hits across the seven innings. KSU scored once in the third to make it 4-1 and pushed one across in the sixth on a wild pitch.

Game 2 (seven innings)
UU cruised to victory, earning the doubleheader sweep after scoring a run in every inning. The Blue Knights tallied the squad's second-highest hit total of the season with 14.

Right hander Jackson Everman threw a two-hit gem and silenced KSU with nine strikeouts. He got stronger as the game went on by retiring nine straight across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. It was the first win of the season for the junior.

Damario Brown registered a career-best 4-for-4 effort at the plate and West collected three hits to pace UU at the dish. Both Knights smacked a double, produced two runs and scored three times.

Finlay, Lopez, Coy and Tim Feasel all picked up a hit and one RBI. Feasel's RBI base knock came in the seventh inning as a pinch-hitter. In addition, Gallagher, Adam Ramirez and Bradley Burkholder also hit safely.

UU led 3-0 after three innings and put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth. The Blue and Grey added one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one more in the final inning to post the second-highest run total in 12 games.

Urbana and Kentucky State will return to the diamond Saturday for a doubleheader set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
