Jackson's Career High 31 Points Not Enough in Tourney Loss

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The Urbana men's basketball team couldn't pull off the upset and fell 76-66 at fifth-seeded Charleston in the opening round of the MEC Tournament on Tuesday.

Sophomore Carlas Jackson produced a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers, while tying his personal-best mark with seven made 3-pointers. Playing in their final games, senior Dimitri Abner netted 17 points and senior MIke Newton hauled in a team-high eight boards. Freshman Jahmere Howze also scored double digits with 11 points.

UU led 40-38 with just under 15 minutes left in regulation and never tailed by more than 10, but couldn't hold on as it saw its season come to a close. The Blue Knights recorded two wins this season, but should have plenty of firepower and talent returning to build off of for next year.

The Blue Knights shot just 35 percent while the Golden Eagles finished at 48-percent shooting. Both teams took care of the ball with each only turning it over fewer than 10 times, but UC outrebounded UU 41-32 on the glass.

UC's Justin Coleman led the home team with 19 points and 10 boards.
