Blue Knights Stymied by No. 7 Wheeling Jesuit

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University women's volleyball team went down in three straight sets to No. 7 Wheeling Jesuit Friday night in Grimes Center. The Blue Knights quickly return to action with a scheduled road contest at Alderson Broaddus Saturday night in Philippi, West Virginia. The non-conference match is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.

Urbana dropped to 10-15 overall following Friday night's defeat, and 4-9 in Mountain East Conference action.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 25-11 victory in the first game, and then the Blue Knights battled back to get within six in the second frame at 19-13, but the visitors proved to be too much.

Wheeling Jesuit (26-3, 13-0 MEC) cruised out to 10-0 lead in the final set, but UU stayed in it and made the final frame competitive. The final set went to the Cardinals by a final score of 25-13.

Six Blue Knights registered at least two kills, led by Katlynn Dunlap's seven. Megan Verhoff put down five points, while Aleese Butler and Madison Davis each recorded four.

Mary Hendricks collected a double-double with 18 assists and a team-high 10 digs.

Maia Dunlap and Amanda Toth were also contributors on the defensive side with nine digs each.

Urbana connected on 25-of-74 (33%) sideout opportunities, while Wheeling Jesuit put down 28-of-42 (66%) chances.
