UU Battles Back, Comes Up Short in Nail-Biter

WISE, Va. – After going down 2-0 on the road, Urbana battled all the way back to force a fifth set against UVa-Wise Friday night, but came up just short.

UU fell 15-12 in the deciding set, as the host Cavaliers overcame the furious comeback attempt. UVa-Wise took the opening sets by the same score, 25-21, and the Blue Knights responded 26-24 and 25-20 in the next two.

Urbana drops to 7-12 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Three Blue Knights reached double figures in the kill's column, led by Katlynn Dunlap's total of 17. Mari King posted a career-high 14, while Aleese Butler notched 10 kills.

Brianna Burkhalter (24), Dunlap (21), and Tara Eades (11) each established new career-highs in the digs category, while Mary Hendricks registered a season-high 18.

Hendricks also paced UU with 42 assists from her setter position.

Butler tallied a team-high seven block assists, as the Blue Knights recorded 12 team blocks on the night.

Urbana will have a quick turnaround with its next match set for a 1 p.m. start Saturday at Concord.
