Kira Zeiter

Kira Zeiter enters her third season as Urbana's head softball coach in 2017-18. She was selected by UU Executive Director of Athletics Larry Cox to lead the softball program in November 2015. Zeiter holds a career record of 130-201 (.393) and 25-63 (.284) ledger at Urbana.

Zeiter, a native of Tucson, Arizona, led a terrific turnaround in 2017. The Blue Knights improved by nine games in the wins column, finishing 17-28 overall (12-20 MEC) for a fourth-place finish in the MEC North Division, which earned the Blue Knights an automatic berth to the MEC Tournament.

In the tournament's opening game, UU led seventh-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan 6-5 after three innings but eventually came up short 7-6. The Blue Knights then defeated a tough Wheeling Jesuit squad 3-1 to advance to Day 2 of the championship.

Under Zeiter's watch, redshirt junior Caitlyn Stoner and senior Courtney Stewart became the program's all-time leaders in home runs and hits, respectively. In addition, Stoner earned All-MEC First Team, All-Atlantic Region Second Team, and MEC All-Tournament Team honors in 2017.

Prior to joining the UU family, Zeiter compiled a 105-138 record over five seasons at Fort Lewis College, a Division II school located in Durango, Colorado. She set a program record for single-season wins with 30 in 2012, while leading the Skyhawks to an NCAA Regional berth. Zeiter had the best winning percentage of any coach in FLC softball history at .432.

Before taking over the Skyhawks, Zeiter spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Adams State College. There, she was responsible for off-campus recruiting, scouting opponents, summer camps, and day-to-day operations for the Grizzlies. During her time as an assistant coach, Adams State posted a 76-59 overall record.

Zeiter also enjoyed a very successful playing career as a corner infielder and outfielder for Adams State. She was a two-time ESPN: The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American, a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District VII selection, and a three-time All-RMAC and Academic All-RMAC selection.

Zeiter finished her playing career holding down top 10 spots in 11 different statistical categories in ASC's NCAA Division II era (1993-present) record book. Following her senior year, she led the Grizzlies in career games played (198) and career games started, and ranked fourth in career home runs (20), third in career RBIs (98), second in career doubles (36) and second in career walks (86).

Zeiter received both her bachelor's degree in business administration, and master's degree in human performance and physical education from Adams State.
