Kevin Horne

In December of 2011, Urbana University appointed Kevin Horne to take over the Blue Knight men's and women's cross country teams.  The new head coach inherited a young program entering its fifth season of NCAA Division II competition.

The fall of 2012 was Horne's first season at the helm of the Blue Knight cross country program.  His team progressively improved at each race in his rookie campaign.  All three of Urbana's men posted personal bests in the 8K during the season, and the women's team completely re-wrote the record books.  Freshmen Jackie Smith and Jade Roark ran 9 of the top 10 times in school history during the course of the season, and senior Sara White ran a personal best and sixth fastest time in program history late in her final season.

Year Two saw even more success from Horne's Blue Knights.  Competing in the new Mountain East Conference, Urbana's men placed 8th and finished the fall with a program-record 8 wins. Five of seven runners set new personal bests and two runners, freshman Mason Dail and junior Josh Brown, made their mark in the program’s Top 10 fastest 5K’s. The Blue Knight women completely rewrote the record books. All four runners completed all six races, and all four set new personal bests.  The fantastic foursome ran faster 5K’s than any other runner in the program’s previous five years, so the entire Top 10 fastest 5K’s in UU history belong to the 2013 foursome.

Horne comes to Urbana University from London City Schools where he served as the head varsity cross country and track coach for the past eight seasons.  Horne also taught Health and Physical Education at London.  Over his eight-year reign, Horne turned the Red Raider runners into a formidable program.  The girls' cross country team won 5 straight conference championships from 2006-2010.  The boys' captured 4 of 5 conference crowns over that same stretch.  Individually, Horne coached numerous all-conference, all district and all-regional performers.  Two of his runners qualified for the state championships, including one who earned All-Ohio honors for a 7th place finish in 2010.

Under Horne, the London boys' track team won a pair of conference titles.  Horne also coached a back-to-back state champion in the 300 hurdles.

Prior to his time at London, Horne also coached track at Cuyahoga Falls City Schools from 2001-03.  He graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Akron in 2001, and later added a health education endorsement from Capital University in 2009 and a master's degree in athletic administration and coaching from Concordia University in 2010.

Coach Horne currently resides in Hilliard with his wife Kristen, and two children, Kyler and Kenley.
