Tom Heffelfinger was elevated to Student Success Coordinator in the summer of 2019 and will support the day-to-day player personnel operations with the football program. His responsibilities include: managing all aspects of the program’s duties for recruiting, including on-campus official and unofficial visits, film evaluations, roster management and student-athlete development. He also coordinates creative marketing strategy with the Athletic Communications office.
Heffelfinger is in his second season on Urbana’s coaching staff. He began his tenure as the special teams quality control coach in the summer of 2018 before shifting gears to recruiting.
Prior to Urbana, Heffelfinger served as the special teams coordinator and associate head coach at Northwestern High School in Springfield Ohio. He also spent time as the specialists coach at Troy High School for the varsity football team while serving as head coach of the freshman team. As the freshman coach, he led the Trojans to a 10-0 season in 2016.
Heffelfinger, who is a native of Piqua, Ohio, helped his high school football team (Piqua) to a state championship in 2006 before attending The Ohio State University where he was part of the Ohio State football program at the end of Jim Tressel’s career. At OSU, Heffelfinger was given the opportunity to walk on where he participated in drills as well as serving as a team manager. During this time, he assisted the specialists as well as helping cornerback coach Taver Johnson and linebacker coach Luke Fickell, who is now the head coach at the University of Cincinnati.
Heffelfinger graduated from Ohio State in 2018 with a degree in strategic communications.
