Jeffries Nets Game-Winner in 3-2 Win over Concord

URBANA, Ohio – David Jeffries' goal in the 53rd minute proved to be the game-winner for the Urbana University men's soccer team on Saturday in a tightly contested 3-2 victory over Concord University.

The Blue Knights (9-4-3, 9-3-2 MEC) outshot the Mountain Lions (3-10-2, 2-10-2 MEC) by a decisive 23-5 margin including an 11-3 differential in shots on goal.

Coach Nick Roberts' crew remains in third place in the Mountain East Conference standings with two matches left in the regular season and sealed a spot in the MEC's postseason conference tournament.

The Blue Knights got out to an early lead thanks to Jasminko Dizdarevic, who sent a rocket shot past Concord's Kyle Brown just 2:30 into the match.

Dizdarevic, a senior from St. Charles, Ill., now leads the entire MEC with 11 goals, 28 shots on goal, 62 total shots and 28 points (11 goals with six assists).

Hass Gorji would extend the UU lead at the 24:21 mark with a goal off Luke Nicholls' assist. Nicholls also assisted on Jeffries' goal for his MEC-best ninth assist of the season.

Matt Shelor's goal at 30:29 into the first half would get Concord on the board and then Courtney Skerritt's goal at 70:03 would set up the final score.

The Mountain Lions would give it one last push in the final minute of play, but Skerritt's shot attempt with 31 seconds remaining was blocked. Jakob Henriksen only needed to make one save for the Blue Knights in net.

UP NEXT: Wheeling University will invade UU Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
