CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The fourth-seeded Urbana University men's soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 1 seed Charleston in the Mountain East Conference Semifinals Wednesday afternoon in the Mountain State.
Playing without MEC Offensive Player of the Year
Jasminko Dizdarevic, UU (10-6-3) focused on clamping down Charleston by packing in the defense and the strategy proved effective.
The Blue Knights and Golden Eagles were scoreless through 75 minutes as goalkeeper
Jakob Henriksen gathered six saves.
However, UC's depth sparked the hosts late in the match and Gabriel Rodriguez broke the tie with a goal in the 76th minute off a cross from Ettore Ballestracci. Rodriguez snuck a header through in the 88th minute to seal the match, and then tacked on another for a hat trick in the 89th.
Urbana didn't record a shot attempt or corner kick, while Charleston piled on 10 corner kicks with nine shots on frame.
