Blue Knights Split Season Finale

URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana baseball's season came to a close Sunday following a doubleheader split with Notre Dame College. The Falcons claimed the opener, 5-1, before the Blue Knights responded with a 6-4 victory in a shortened finale due to weather.

UU wrapped the season with an overall record of 11-36 and 11-21 ledger in conference play. With its victory, NDC (19-30, 16-16 MEC) captured the final qualifying spot for the MEC postseason tournament by holding a tie-breaker advantage over Fairmont State.

The Blue Knights finished 4-4 down the stretch, alternating wins and losses over the final eight games of the season.

Additionally, UU celebrated its 10 seniors prior to the doubleheader.

//  GAME 1 (NDC 5, UU 1)
NDC starter Chris Murphy took a no-hitter into the fifth inning to lead the Falcons to a 5-1 victory.

After both teams scored once in the opening frame, the visitors kept it rolling with a pair in the second and another run in the third for a 4-1 lead. NDC racked up eight of its 11 hits in the first three innings.

Senior Cody Fullenkamp broke the no-hitter with a line-drive single with two outs in the fifth. UU had two runners on but stranded both.

Reliever Chase Jessee delivered one of his best outings of the season. The freshman lefty did not allow a hit with three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.

Making his final appearance as a Blue Knight, UU starter Steven Beall (3-3) was tagged with the loss and charged with five earned runs. Beall completed his senior season with a career-high 50.1 innings pitched.

//  GAME 2 (UU 6, NDC 4 - FIVE INNINGS)
UU trailed 4-1 and then plated five runs in the fifth to claim the lead right before a thunderstorm struck. There were two separate lightning delays before the game was eventually called official.

Two clutch hits brought UU all the way back during the rally. With the bases loaded, Mickey Losey roped a single past the third baseman down the line to score Cody Fullenkamp and Brad Burkholder.

Then, Austin Pratt came up next and launched a moonshot to left field for a three-run homer. The go-ahead blast was his first round-tripper as a Blue Knight and sent the UU bench into a frenzy.

In his final career start, Patrick Orr earned the win after allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts. The right-hander finished 3-4 on the season and registered a career-high 48 strikeouts in 51.1 innings of work.

NDC had scored once in both the second and third frames, and then tacked on two more in the fourth. Both teams totaled six hits in the final game of the series, which was split 2-2.

Losey and Pratt each finished with two hits to lead the way. Fullenkamp and fellow senior Connor Coy also recorded a base knock in their final game played at UU.
